Community Involvement

As steadfast members of communities we serve, our associates are determined to give back.

Thompson Designer Delivery, a McCorquodale Transfer company, based in Houston, TX recently had the opportunity to serve Marie Flanigan on a project that helped a young family navigating difficult circumstances. Through design, Marie was able to provide a comforting and functional space that all members of the family could enjoy. We are so grateful that Marie Flanigan included us in making this experience smooth and efficient.

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, McCorquodale Transfer – Charleston was able to provide warehouse space to collect and store supplies on behalf of the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina. The church was able to prep and ship disaster relief items, food, and equipment to the affected areas in North Carolina.

Marie Flanigan – Q&A

Is it more important to have a recognizable aesthetic or to remain adaptable to each client/project?

Design, for me, has always been about helping clients uncover and articulate their own vision. While I naturally love working with soft palettes, natural materials, and timeless details, adaptability is what makes each home unique. When a design reflects the people who live in it, the result is always more authentic, layered, and personal.

How do you balance aesthetics with livability in your interiors?

A home should be beautiful, but it should also be lived in and loved every day. I rely on durable fabrics, thoughtful layouts, and natural textures that bring elegance and ease together. I also think about how different spaces serve different purposes—one room might lean a little more formal while the next feels cozy and inviting. That balance creates a home that welcomes life in all its forms.

What is your favorite quote as related to design?

It’s not a quote as much as a guiding mantra: Know the rules well, so you also know and understand when to break them. It’s in that balance between discipline and creativity that the most memorable designs take shape.

What’s one design rule you live by—or love to break?

Lighting is the jewelry of any space. It’s one place where I really encourage clients to take risks, invest in quality, and have fun. A well-chosen fixture has the power to transform an entire room.

How does your city or cultural environment influence your design choices?

Houston is such a vibrant city—diverse, innovative, and full of cultural richness. I’ve been fortunate to work with clients from all walks of life, and their backgrounds often shape the way they envision living in their homes. That exchange of ideas keeps my design perspective evolving in the best way.

Please share an example of when McCorquodale Transfer/Thompson Delivery exceeded expectations.

For years, my firm has relied on Thompson’s and now we’re thrilled to work with McCorquodale. The team we work with has truly become like family to us. The crew are an essential part of every installation—they bring efficiency, professionalism, and a can-do attitude that makes the process seamless. We don’t install without them, and that speaks volumes.
